Description

Amish Country Casserole is a creamy, comforting baked dish made with seasoned ground beef, tender egg noodles, rich tomato and mushroom soups, and a golden layer of melted cheddar cheese. This hearty family-friendly casserole is perfect for busy weeknights and delivers classic homestyle flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.75 oz / 305 g) condensed tomato soup
  • 1 can (10.75 oz / 305 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
  • 2 cups (8 oz / 225 g) uncooked egg noodles
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup (150 g) frozen peas (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the condensed tomato soup, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Mix until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the egg noodles in salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  5. Add the cooked noodles to the beef mixture and stir until evenly coated. Fold in frozen peas if using.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the noodles; they will continue cooking in the oven.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute half-and-half for the milk.
  • You can replace ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • This casserole can be frozen unbaked for up to 3 months; thaw overnight before baking.
