Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 can (10.75 oz / 305 g) condensed tomato soup
- 1 can (10.75 oz / 305 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk
- 2 cups (8 oz / 225 g) uncooked egg noodles
- 2 cups (200 g) shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup (150 g) frozen peas (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the condensed tomato soup, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Mix until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Cook the egg noodles in salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- Add the cooked noodles to the beef mixture and stir until evenly coated. Fold in frozen peas if using.
- Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Do not overcook the noodles; they will continue cooking in the oven.
- For a richer flavor, substitute half-and-half for the milk.
- You can replace ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- This casserole can be frozen unbaked for up to 3 months; thaw overnight before baking.
