Description

Apple Chicken Skillet is a comforting, easy-to-make dish that blends the savory goodness of chicken with the sweet and tart flavors of fresh apples. This quick and flavorful recipe is perfect for busy weeknights and offers a delightful balance of savory, sweet, and creamy textures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Chicken Breasts (boneless, skinless): Tender and juicy, providing lean protein.
  • 2 Apples (sliced): Adds a subtle sweetness and tartness that complements the savory chicken.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil: Used for sautéing the chicken and apples.
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced): Fresh garlic enhances the flavor of the sauce.
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth: Forms the base of the creamy sauce.
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream: Creates a smooth and velvety sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme: Adds earthy flavor to the dish.
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste): For seasoning the chicken and sauce.

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken breasts for 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced apples and sauté for about 3 minutes until they soften.
  4. Add minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional minute to release the flavors.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  6. Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the sauce and apples over the top. Let the chicken simmer in the sauce for another 5-7 minutes until fully cooked and the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh thyme or parsley. Serve hot with a side of rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) for doneness.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, let it simmer longer. For a thinner sauce, add more chicken broth.
  • Granny Smith apples work well for a tart flavor, while Honeycrisp apples are sweeter.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of chicken broth.
