Description

Apple Cider Glazed Chicken is a savory, fall-inspired dish featuring tender chicken thighs coated in a sweet and tangy apple cider glaze. It’s simple to make, requiring just one pan and a handful of ingredients for a mouthwatering meal that’s perfect for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¼ cups Apple Cider
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • ⅓ cup Brown Sugar
  • 3 cloves Garlic (grated or minced)
  • ⅓ cup Yellow Onion (finely diced)
  • 1 sprig Fresh Rosemary
  • 1 sprig Fresh Thyme
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 tsp Fresh Ginger (grated)
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 large Honeycrisp Apple (sliced)
  • 4 Chicken Thighs (skin on)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ tsp Onion Powder
  • ½ tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 2 tbsp Avocado Oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Season both sides of the chicken thighs with the seasoning mixture.
  3. Heat avocado oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken thighs, skin-side down. Sear for 4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the onion until translucent. Then add apple cider, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, rosemary, thyme, garlic, ginger, and nutmeg. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the sliced Honeycrisp apples to the skillet, followed by the seared chicken thighs. Baste the chicken with the glaze, then transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Once the chicken is cooked, remove the skillet from the oven. Baste the chicken with the glaze one more time. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve. Spoon extra glaze over the chicken when serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs to ensure a crispier crust and more flavorful meat.
  • Ensure the chicken is not overcrowded during searing, as this can cause it to steam instead of crisp up.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, make a cornstarch slurry and add it to the sauce to thicken it before baking.
  • This recipe can be adapted using other apple varieties like Fuji or Gala if Honeycrisp apples are unavailable.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
