Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2-3 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the chopped apples and brown sugar until evenly distributed.
- Scoop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Flatten each mound slightly with the back of a spoon.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled fritters and let it set before serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the fritters light and fluffy.
- Use firm apples like Granny Smith for best texture and flavor.
- Chop apples into small, even pieces for consistent baking.
- For a crispier top, broil the fritters for 1-2 minutes after glazing.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Reheat in the oven for best texture before serving leftovers.
