Description

These baked maple glazed donuts are spiced, cakey donuts topped with a thick, rich maple glaze. Easy to make, healthier than fried donuts, and full of cozy fall flavors, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a seasonal treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (65g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (60g) yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup (112g) sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and spray donut pan with non-stick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter, egg, brown sugar, milk, yogurt, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and whisk just until combined. Batter will be thick.
  5. Spoon batter into a zip-top bag, cut the corner, and pipe into donut pan, filling each cavity halfway.
  6. Bake for 10–11 minutes or until edges and tops are lightly browned and donuts spring back when touched.
  7. Let donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. To make the glaze, melt butter and maple syrup in a small saucepan over low heat.
  9. Remove from heat, whisk in confectioners’ sugar and maple extract. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
  10. Let glaze cool for 2–3 minutes, then dip each donut top into the glaze. Double dip if desired.

Notes

  • Use pure maple syrup for the best flavor in the glaze.
  • You can freeze baked (un-glazed) donuts for up to 3 months.
  • No donut pan? Use a muffin tin and bake for 18–20 minutes.
  • All ingredients should be at room temperature to ensure even mixing.
