Description

Baked tortellini is a comforting, cheesy pasta dish perfect for busy weeknights. With cheese-filled tortellini, marinara sauce, and a combination of mozzarella and cheddar, it’s a simple yet satisfying meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups marinara sauce (one 24 oz. jar)
  • 2 (9 ounce) packages uncooked refrigerated cheese tortellini
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and move the rack to the top third of the oven.
  2. Add the olive oil and onion to a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté for 4-5 minutes until the onion is soft.
  3. Stir in the ground beef and minced garlic. Cook, breaking the meat up with your spoon, until the beef is browned (about 8-10 minutes). Remove any excess fat.
  4. Transfer the cooked beef mixture to a 9×13 casserole dish.
  5. Add the marinara sauce, cheese tortellini, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well and spread evenly.
  6. Top with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35-40 minutes, until the tortellini is cooked and the cheese has melted.
  8. If desired, remove the foil and broil for 2-3 minutes to brown the cheese.
  9. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use refrigerated tortellini for quicker cooking. If using frozen tortellini, increase the baking time by 10 minutes.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or Italian sausage for a different flavor.
  • Feel free to make this dish ahead of time and refrigerate overnight. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time when reheating.
  • If you prefer a crispier top, broil the dish for a couple of minutes after baking.
