Description

This Blackberry Vanilla Bourbon Jam is a rich, sweet, and slightly boozy spread made with fresh blackberries, bourbon, vanilla, lemon, and sugar. Perfect for breakfast, desserts, or savory dishes like grilled meats or sandwiches, it’s a versatile jam that can be frozen or canned for later use.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups blackberries: provides fruity base and natural pectin
  • 3-4 tablespoons bourbon: adds depth and warmth
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract: enhances sweetness and aroma
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice: adds brightness and aids thickening
  • 1 lemon, zested: provides citrusy aroma and flavor
  • 1 cup cane sugar: sweetens and helps preserve the jam

Instructions

  1. Wash and strain the blackberries, then place them in a large sauté pan.
  2. Use a wooden spoon or masher to lightly crush the blackberries to release their juices.
  3. Add bourbon, vanilla extract, lemon juice, lemon zest, and sugar to the pan. Stir to combine.
  4. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for about 25 minutes, or until thickened to desired consistency.
  7. Test thickness by placing a small spoonful on a chilled plate. If it holds its shape after 30 seconds, it’s done.
  8. Remove from heat and ladle into jars or freezer-safe containers.
  9. Let cool before sealing or follow proper water bath canning procedure for long-term storage.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit bourbon or substitute with apple juice.
  • You can freeze the jam in small portions for up to 3 months.
  • Great for pairing with cheese, meat, or desserts like ice cream and pastries.
  • Use sterilized jars and proper water bath method if canning for shelf storage.
