Description

Blackened Steak and Shrimp Alfredo is a creamy, smoky surf-and-turf pasta dish made with seared steak, shrimp, and a rich Alfredo sauce—perfect for beginners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 pound large shrimp, raw, deveined, tail removed
  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning (for shrimp)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon blackened seasoning (for steak)
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced (about 1/2 cup)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon blackened seasoning (for sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, drain, and set aside.
  2. Season shrimp with blackened seasoning. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, cook shrimp 1–2 minutes per side until pink. Transfer to a plate and cover.
  3. Season steak with blackened seasoning. Increase heat to high, add butter to the skillet, and sear steak cubes 1–2 minutes per side until browned outside and pink inside. Remove and cover.
  4. Reduce heat to medium, add diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened (3–5 minutes). Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  5. Pour in heavy cream, add parmesan, pasta water, blackened seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir until cheese melts and sauce thickens.
  6. Add cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. Add more pasta water if needed to adjust consistency.
  7. Top with cooked shrimp and steak. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen shrimp—thaw under cold water if needed.
  • Don’t overcrowd the skillet; cook shrimp and steak in batches if necessary.
  • Use half-and-half or whole milk for a lighter sauce.
  • Leftovers can be reheated with a splash of milk to loosen the sauce.
  • For a vegetarian version, replace steak and shrimp with sautéed mushrooms.
