Description
Candied Cranberries are a sweet-tart holiday snack made by soaking fresh cranberries in a citrus and soda mixture, then coating them in powdered sugar for a frosty finish. A viral TikTok favorite, they’re perfect for decorating desserts, gifting, or enjoying on their own.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (12-ounce) bag fresh cranberries
- 2 cups 7Up soda (or Prosecco for adults)
- 1 cup orange juice (or pineapple juice)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (ensure it’s cornstarch-free and from a new bag)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the fresh cranberries, 7Up (or Prosecco), and orange juice. Stir well, cover, and refrigerate for 24 hours to allow the berries to soak.
- After 24 hours, preheat the oven to 200ºF (93ºC). Use an oven thermometer to ensure the temperature is accurate.
- Drain the cranberries using a colander and transfer them to a large zip-top bag.
- Add the powdered sugar to the bag and shake thoroughly until all the cranberries are evenly coated.
- Spread the coated cranberries in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- If there’s excess sugar, place the cranberries in a colander and shake gently to remove it.
- Bake for 5 minutes only. Do not overbake or exceed 200ºF to avoid drying the berries.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool completely before serving or storing.
Notes
- Use only fresh cranberries—frozen or dried won’t provide the signature ‘pop.’
- Make sure the powdered sugar is cornstarch-free to avoid a soapy taste.
- Prosecco is a great substitute for 7Up in adult versions of the recipe.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Great as edible decor, dessert toppings, or festive gifts.
