Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat evenly.
- Spread half of the caramel sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
- Add the apple mixture over the caramel and spread evenly. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the apples.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in chopped pecans if using.
- Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
