Description

Cherry Danish with Puff Pastry is an easy, flaky pastry filled with sweetened cream cheese and fresh cherries. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, this bakery-style treat comes together quickly using store-bought puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed and refrigerated
  • 6 ounces fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (preferably full-fat)
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar (plus more for garnish)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • Pinch of salt (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the cherries, then pit and halve them.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Prepare egg wash by whisking together the egg, cold water, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a 10.5-inch square, about 1/8-inch thick.
  5. Cut the dough into 9 equal squares (3.5 x 3.5 inches each).
  6. Place 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square.
  7. Top with 3–4 cherry halves.
  8. Brush egg wash on one corner of each square, then fold diagonally and pinch to seal.
  9. Chill the assembled pastries in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 400°F (210°C).
  11. Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with remaining egg wash.
  12. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  13. Cool slightly on a wire rack and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure puff pastry stays cold while working with it—chill as needed.
  • If using frozen cherries, defrost and pat dry to remove moisture.
  • Adjust sugar in cream cheese filling depending on cherry sweetness.
  • These can be frozen before baking and baked directly from frozen.
