Perfect for a holiday breakfast or as a sweet snack for Christmas morning, these cinnamon rolls are guaranteed to bring joy to your festive celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened (for the filling)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for the filling)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for the filling)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (for the icing)
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, browned (for the icing)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for the icing)
  • 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce (for the icing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the icing)
  • Pinch of salt (for the icing)

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, combine warm milk, yeast, and brown sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly. Add melted butter, eggs, flour, vanilla, and salt. Mix until smooth, adding flour as needed.
  2. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. For the filling, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  4. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12-15 rolls. Place them in a buttered 9×13-inch baking dish. Let them rise for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. To make the icing, brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. In a bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add the browned butter, powdered sugar, caramel sauce, vanilla, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  7. Spread the warm icing over the baked rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, allow the dough to rise properly to ensure soft, fluffy rolls.
  • Use fresh yeast for optimal rise.
  • The rolls can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator overnight for a quick morning bake.
  • The icing can be stored in the fridge and reheated before serving.
