Description

These Churro Snacks are a sweet, crunchy, oven-baked treat made with Honeycomb cereal and coated in a rich caramel glaze and cinnamon-sugar. They deliver the classic churro flavor without frying, making them perfect for parties, holiday gifts, or everyday snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups Honeycomb cereal: Provides a light, airy crunch that holds the caramel coating well.
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar: Adds rich, molasses-like sweetness to the caramel coating.
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick): Forms the base of the caramel and adds creamy flavor.
  • 1/3 cup corn syrup: Prevents crystallization and keeps the caramel smooth.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: Enhances the sweet, dessert-like aroma.
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda: Creates a frothy caramel texture that coats cereal evenly.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar: Used for the final sweet coating.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon: Delivers the signature churro flavor.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Place 5 cups of Honeycomb cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Stir until mixture begins to boil.
  4. Boil for 2 minutes, then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and baking soda — the mixture will become frothy.
  5. Quickly pour the caramel over the cereal and gently stir until evenly coated.
  6. Spread coated cereal in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, stirring once halfway through for even baking.
  8. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over hot cereal immediately after baking and toss to coat.
  9. Let the churro snacks cool completely on the baking sheet before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Work quickly when pouring caramel to ensure even coating before it hardens.
  • Do not refrigerate as it may make the coating sticky.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 7 days to maintain crispness.
  • You can double the batch for parties or gifting.
