Description
Classic Parisian Hot Chocolate is a rich, velvety beverage made with real dark chocolate, whole milk, and cream. It delivers a luxurious, café-style experience in just 10 minutes, perfect for chilly days or special moments.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk: provides a creamy base
- 1/2 cup heavy cream: adds richness and thickness
- 1 tablespoon sugar: enhances the chocolate’s natural sweetness
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract: adds warm aromatic flavor
- 6 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped: the key to deep, velvety texture
- Whipped cream or chocolate shavings (optional): for topping and extra indulgence
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups of whole milk and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Warm over medium-low heat until small bubbles form at the edges. Do not boil.
- Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk gently to combine.
- Add 6 oz of finely chopped dark chocolate (70%) to the warm milk. Let it sit for 30 seconds to soften.
- Whisk continuously until the chocolate fully melts and the mixture becomes smooth and glossy.
- Continue to cook on low heat, whisking constantly for 3–5 minutes until the hot chocolate thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate bars, not chocolate chips, for a smoother result.
- Do not allow the mixture to boil, as it can cause separation or burning.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently on the stove.
- To make vegan: use dairy-free chocolate, oat milk, and coconut cream.
