Description

Coconut Magic Bars are a simple, indulgent dessert featuring layers of buttery graham cracker crust, gooey condensed milk, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, and crunchy pecans. This classic treat requires no mixing—just layer and bake for a foolproof, crowd-pleasing dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 1516 full sheets)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • ¾ cup pecans, coarsely chopped
  • 1 ⅔ cups sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in an 8×8-inch baking pan and let it melt in the oven. Remove once fully melted.
  2. Make the graham cracker crust: Crush the graham crackers into fine crumbs using a food processor or rolling pin. Mix with brown sugar until combined. Evenly spread this mixture over the melted butter in the pan, pressing it down to form a firm crust.
  3. Layer the ingredients: Evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans over the crust, ensuring each layer is spread out for even flavor distribution.
  4. Add the condensed milk: Slowly drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the entire surface, ensuring it covers all the ingredients for a cohesive, gooey texture.
  5. Bake the bars: Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the coconut turns lightly golden brown and the edges begin to firm up.
  6. Cool and slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing. For cleaner cuts, refrigerate for 30 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or replace them with extra coconut or chocolate chips.
  • To make these bars extra chewy, use a mix of sweetened and unsweetened coconut.
  • Lining the pan with parchment paper allows for easy removal and slicing.
  • If the bars seem too soft after cooling, refrigerate for a firmer texture.
