Description

Cracker Candy is a quick and irresistible dessert made with saltine crackers, buttery toffee, and a rich chocolate topping. This sweet and salty treat is perfect for holidays, parties, or any time you crave a crunchy, chocolaty snack. It’s easy to make, highly customizable with fun toppings, and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers: base layer that adds salty crunch
  • 1 cup unsalted butter: creates the toffee with rich, creamy flavor
  • 1 cup brown sugar: caramelizes into a smooth toffee layer
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips: melts into a luscious chocolate topping
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional): adds texture and nutty flavor
  • 1 tbsp sprinkles (optional): festive touch, especially for holidays
  • 1/2 tsp flaky sea salt (optional): enhances the sweet and salty contrast

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil, making sure the edges are covered.
  2. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to fully cover the baking sheet.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar. Stir frequently until combined, then let boil undisturbed for 3 minutes.
  4. Carefully pour the hot toffee over the crackers and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  5. Bake for 5 minutes until the toffee is bubbling and set.
  6. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the toffee. Let sit for 1–2 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
  7. Add your desired toppings while the chocolate is still soft.
  8. Let cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for 30 minutes until the chocolate is firm.
  9. Break into pieces and serve or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Use heavy-duty foil or parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • Allow the toffee to boil for exactly 3 minutes without stirring for ideal texture.
  • Let chocolate chips melt before spreading to ensure a smooth finish.
  • Cracker Candy can be stored in the fridge for up to a week or frozen for 2 months.
