This easy recipe creates tender apple fries with a crunchy exterior, perfect for serving as a warm snack or fall-inspired dessert with your favorite dipping sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and cut into fry-shaped strips)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil spray
Instructions
- In a large resealable plastic bag, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves. Seal the bag and shake well until the mixture is evenly combined.
- Peel and core 2 large Granny Smith apples. Slice them into wedges and then cut each wedge into approximately 1/2-inch thick fry-like strips.
- Add the apple strips into the bag with the coating mixture. Seal the bag again and shake until all apple pieces are evenly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes.
- Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to allow proper airflow.
- Lightly spray the apple fries with cooking oil spray.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
- Open the air fryer, flip the apple fries carefully, and lightly spray with a little more oil if needed.
- Continue cooking for another 5 minutes or until the apple fries become golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fries from the air fryer and allow them to cool for 2–3 minutes before serving warm with caramel sauce, yogurt dip, or chocolate sauce.
Notes
- Use firm apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp to prevent the fries from becoming too soft.
- Cut the apple strips evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary.
- A light spray of oil helps the coating become golden and crisp.
- Serve immediately for the best crunchy texture.
