Description
These crispy Chicken Cordon Bleu Bites are a bite-sized twist on the classic dish, featuring tender chicken, melty Swiss cheese, and savory ham in a crunchy golden coating. Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or easy dinner, they’re beginner-friendly and quick to prepare.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (may need more)
- ½ – ¾ cup vegetable oil for frying
- 4 slices Swiss cheese, cut into 1-inch squares
- 4 slices deli ham, cut into 1-inch squares
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons mustard
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat over low to medium heat until it reaches about 350°F.
- Prepare the coating: In a resealable bag, combine the flour, Cajun seasoning, and garlic salt, then shake to mix evenly.
- Coat the chicken: Dip each chicken piece into milk, then transfer it to the flour mixture, shaking to coat. Dip the flour-coated chicken back into the milk, then roll it in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to help them stick.
- Fry the chicken: Carefully add the coated chicken bites to the hot oil, frying for about 7-9 minutes per side or until golden brown and fully cooked. The internal temperature should reach 170°F. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Add cheese and ham: Return the fried chicken to the pan, topping each piece with a slice of Swiss cheese, then two pieces of ham, followed by another slice of cheese. Cover the pan and allow the cheese to melt over low heat. If needed, turn the heat on for a minute to speed up the process.
- Make the dipping sauce: In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise and mustard until smooth. Serve alongside the warm Chicken Cordon Bleu Bites.
Notes
- Crispy tip: Double-dipping in flour and milk helps the breading stick better for a crunchier texture.
- Alternative cooking methods: Bake at 400°F for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway, or air-fry at 375°F for 12-15 minutes.
- Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in an oven or air fryer for crispiness.
- Make ahead: Bread the chicken in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 8 hours before cooking.
