Description

Dr Pepper Sloppy Joes bring a fun twist to a classic comfort food. The combination of savory ground beef, tangy tomato sauce, and the unique sweetness of Dr Pepper creates a flavorful and satisfying meal. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual family gatherings, this recipe is quick, easy, and full of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup Dr. Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and bell pepper and cook for about 10 minutes until softened and slightly browned.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up into small crumbles. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the beef is browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, Dr. Pepper, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
  7. Serve the Dr Pepper Sloppy Joes on your favorite hamburger buns.

Notes

  • Ensure the onions and bell peppers are cooked well to enhance their flavor and texture.
  • Drain the excess fat from the beef for a leaner, healthier meal.
  • Allow the Sloppy Joe mixture to simmer for at least 10 minutes to let the flavors meld together and thicken the sauce.
  • For extra texture and flavor, serve on toasted hamburger buns.
  • Sloppy Joes are meant to be messy, so be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand!
