Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour: provides structure and soft texture
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast: helps the dough rise and become fluffy
- 1 cup warm milk (240 ml): activates yeast and adds richness
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 g): adds slight sweetness and feeds yeast
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (60 g): enhances flavor and softness
- 1 large egg: adds richness and structure
- 1 tsp salt: balances flavor
- 2–3 tbsp warm water (30–45 ml): adjusts dough consistency
- 1 egg (for egg wash): gives golden shiny crust
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add small amounts of flour if sticky.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into equal portions.
- Roll each portion into ropes and shape into bunny forms with ears and a round body.
- Place on a lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with egg wash.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
- Use warm milk (not hot) to avoid killing the yeast.
- Do not overproof the dough to maintain bunny shapes.
- Add herbs or cheese for a savory variation.
- Brush with melted butter after baking for extra flavor.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
