Description

Easter Dirt Cake is a creamy no-bake dessert layered with rich homemade chocolate pudding, fluffy cheesecake filling, and crushed Oreo cookies that resemble garden soil. Decorated with green coconut and colorful candies, this fun and festive treat is perfect for Easter gatherings, spring parties, and family celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 ounces heavy cream
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for cheesecake layer)
  • 1 package (about 14 oz) Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut, dyed green
  • 1/2 cup M&M’s or candy-coated chocolate candies

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and gradually stir in the 3 cups of milk.
  3. Cook the mixture while stirring constantly until it comes to a gentle boil and thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Pour the chocolate pudding into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish and spread evenly. Refrigerate until cooled and set.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  7. Add the heavy cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, then beat until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  8. Remove the chilled pudding layer from the refrigerator and gently spread the cheesecake mixture evenly on top.
  9. Crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or rolling pin.
  10. Sprinkle the crushed Oreos evenly across the cheesecake layer to create the dirt topping.
  11. Decorate the top with green-colored shredded coconut to resemble grass and scatter M&M’s for a festive Easter look.
  12. Refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 2 hours before serving for the best texture.

Notes

  • Allow the chocolate pudding layer to cool completely before adding the cheesecake layer to prevent mixing.
  • Use softened cream cheese for a smooth and lump-free filling.
  • Crush the Oreo cookies finely for a realistic dirt appearance.
  • The dessert can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • For fun presentation, assemble the dessert in small jars or terracotta pots for individual servings.
