Description

Easter Egg Sugar Cookies are soft, buttery, and perfectly sweet cookies shaped into festive eggs and decorated with colorful icing. These classic cut-out sugar cookies are easy to make and ideal for Easter celebrations, baking with kids, or gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring (as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide dough into two discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into egg shapes.
  8. Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Mix powdered sugar with milk to make icing, divide, and color as desired.
  11. Decorate cookies and allow icing to set before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough to prevent spreading during baking.
  • Do not overbake to maintain a soft texture.
  • Let cookies cool completely before decorating.
  • Adjust icing consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar.
