Description

These banana donut holes are a quick, two-ingredient treat with all the comforting flavors of banana bread. Baked in an air fryer for a healthier, oil-free alternative to fried donuts, they are naturally vegan and perfect for a 15-minute snack. Lightly coated in cinnamon sugar, these bite-sized delights are soft on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • ½ cup mashed banana (about 1 large banana)
  • ¾ cup self-rising flour

For the Coating:

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar (or coconut sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil or vegan butter

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana: Peel a ripe banana and mash it thoroughly with a fork until smooth. Measure out exactly ½ cup of mashed banana to ensure the right dough consistency.
  2. Combine the ingredients: In a mixing bowl, stir together the mashed banana and self-rising flour until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, lightly grease your hands before handling it.
  3. Shape the dough balls: Roll the dough into small, golf ball-sized pieces. You should get about 8 donut holes.
  4. Prepare the air fryer: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with oil or cooking spray, then place the donut holes inside, leaving space between them to allow for even cooking.
  5. Air fry the donut holes: Set the air fryer to 350°F (180°C) and cook for about 7 minutes, or until the donut holes are puffed up and lightly golden.
  6. Coat with cinnamon sugar: While the donut holes are still warm, brush them with melted coconut oil or vegan butter. In a separate bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar, then roll each donut hole in the mixture until evenly coated.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Enjoy immediately while warm, or store leftovers in an airtight container.

Notes

  • If you don’t have self-rising flour, substitute ¾ cup all-purpose flour + 1½ teaspoons baking powder.
  • Want a sugar-free option? Use a Monk fruit sweetener instead of sugar for the coating.
  • Try different coatings like powdered sugar, maple glaze, or melted dark chocolate for variety.
