Description
Apple Pie Egg Rolls are a quick and healthy twist on classic apple pie, featuring spiced apples and cream cheese wrapped in crispy golden egg roll wrappers. Perfect for beginners and packed with nostalgic flavor, this dessert is ideal for holidays, potlucks, or anytime you want a simple sweet treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 5 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced (about 3½ cups)
- ¼ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon cornstarch
- 22–24 egg roll wrappers
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature (about 2 teaspoons per egg roll)
- Cooking oil or cooking spray
Topping
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup caramel topping, warmed, for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Make the apple filling: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and cornstarch. Stir well until the apples are evenly coated and the mixture starts to look glossy.
- Assemble the egg rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface. Spread about two teaspoons of cream cheese in the center, then top with approximately two tablespoons of the apple mixture. Be careful not to overfill.
- Seal the wrappers: Dip your finger in water and moisten all four edges of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then tuck in both sides. Roll the wrapper toward the top corner, sealing it completely.
- Bake the egg rolls: Arrange the filled egg rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush or spray the tops with oil. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wrappers are golden and crispy.
- Add the cinnamon-sugar coating: While the egg rolls are still warm, roll them in a mixture of granulated sugar and cinnamon until fully coated.
- Serve and enjoy: These are best served warm with a side of warm caramel sauce for dipping or drizzling.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, consider using an air fryer at 400°F for 5–7 minutes, flipping halfway. You can swap out cream cheese for ricotta, or omit it entirely for a dairy-free version. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best texture. Avoid microwaving to keep the wrappers crisp.
