Ingredients
Scale
- 4 (14.5 oz) cans green beans, drained
- 2 (10.5 oz) cans cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 3 cups French fried onions, divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a 3-quart casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, whole milk, and freshly ground black pepper.
- Stir in the drained green beans and ½ cup of crispy fried onions.
- Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish. Spread it out evenly and top with the remaining fried onions.
- Place the casserole in the oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the onions are golden brown.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a cheesy version, add 1 to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese to the green bean mixture before baking.
- Fresh green beans can be used instead of canned, with about 5 cups cooked.
- If you don’t like mushrooms, you can substitute the cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cream of onion soup.
- For a crispier topping, mix some fried onions into the casserole.
- You can make this dish up to 3 days in advance without the fried onions. Bake it with the fried onions right before serving.
