Description

This Healthy Breakfast Apple Crumble is a warm, comforting, and naturally sweetened dish made with apples, oats, nuts, and honey. Perfect for a quick and healthy morning meal or a light dessert, this easy-to-make crumble is crisp on top and soft underneath, bursting with cinnamon-spiced apple goodness.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 6 sweet apples, chopped
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp coconut oil

Crumble Topping

  • ⅔ cup rolled oats
  • ⅔ cup pecans or walnuts
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Chop the apples into bite-sized pieces. Heat a pan over medium heat, melt the coconut oil, and add the apples, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally and let them soften for about five minutes. Covering the pan for a few minutes will help them cook faster. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Make the crumble: In a food processor or blender, combine the oats, nuts, coconut oil, honey, and a splash of water. Pulse for about 30 seconds until the mixture becomes crumbly but slightly sticky. If using a knife instead of a food processor, chop the nuts finely and mix everything in a bowl until combined.
  3. Assemble the crumble: Lightly grease a small baking dish with coconut oil or line it with parchment paper. Spread the softened apples evenly in the dish. Take the crumble mixture and press it lightly with your fingers to create chunks before sprinkling it over the apples.
  4. Bake and serve: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown and crispy. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm with a splash of milk, a dollop of yogurt, or even a scoop of ice cream for dessert.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, replace honey with maple syrup.
  • For a nut-free option, omit the nuts and use extra oats or seeds.
  • If the crumble seems too dry, add an extra teaspoon of coconut oil or honey.
  • For the crispiest topping, always reheat leftovers in the oven instead of the microwave.
