Description

Fried Apple Rings are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in warm cinnamon sugar. Made with fresh apples dipped in a lightly spiced batter and fried until golden brown, this easy homemade dessert is perfect for fall gatherings, weekend treats, or anytime you crave a comforting sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch rings
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar, optional for dusting
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, for coating

Instructions

  1. Peel and core the apples, then slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Pat each slice dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined to form a smooth batter.
  4. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each apple ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place into the hot oil. Fry in batches without overcrowding the pan.
  6. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried apple rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. While still warm, coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture or dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Maintain the oil temperature at 350°F (175°C) to prevent greasy apple rings.
  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith for the best texture and slight tartness.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure even frying and crispiness.
  • Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven or air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes to restore crispiness.
