Description

Grinch Sugar Cookies are a fun and festive treat perfect for the holiday season. These bright green, chewy cookies with a red heart sprinkle represent the Grinch’s growing heart. Quick and easy to make, they require no chilling time, making them an excellent choice for holiday baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 stick (4 ounces/8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks (no egg whites!)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-5 drops green gel food coloring
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 12 red heart sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Melt the butter in a mixing bowl, then stir in the sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla extract.
  3. Stir in the green food coloring until you achieve the desired shade of green.
  4. Sprinkle the flour, baking soda, and salt on top of the wet ingredients, then stir until fully combined.
  5. Press the dough flat in the bowl, divide it in half, and use a small scoop to make 12 dough balls (6 from each half).
  6. Roll the dough balls in granulated sugar to coat them.
  7. Place the sugar-coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
  8. Bake for 10-11 minutes, until the cookies have spread and puffed up.
  9. Immediately after removing them from the oven, press a red heart sprinkle into the center of each cookie.
  10. Allow the cookies to rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • These cookies are best when baked on parchment paper for maximum crinkling.
  • If the dough spreads too much, use a round cookie cutter to reshape the cookies while they are still warm.
  • The dough can be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • For a more natural green color, you can use spirulina or matcha powder as an alternative to food coloring.
