Ingredients
Scale
- 2/3 cup butter – provides richness and fudgy texture
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil – adds extra moisture
- 1 cup granulated sugar – sweetens and balances cocoa
- 1/3 cup brown sugar – enhances chewiness with caramel notes
- 2/3 cup cocoa powder – gives deep chocolate flavor
- 2 large eggs (cold) – bind ingredients and add structure
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – adds warm flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon salt – balances sweetness
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour – provides structure
- 15 Halloween Oreos – layered in the center
- 5 extra Oreos – crushed for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Once fully melted, microwave for another minute and stir well to help dissolve the sugar.
- Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix until the batter slightly pulls away from the bowl.
- Fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread half of the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Place the 15 Oreos in a layer over the batter, then cover with the remaining brownie batter, spreading to cover completely.
- Sprinkle the 5 crushed Oreos on top.
- Bake for about 30 minutes or until the center is just set.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares for the best fudgy texture and clean cuts.
Notes
- Cool brownies fully before slicing—ideally 6–8 hours for clean cuts.
- Dip a sharp knife in warm water and wipe clean between slices for neat edges.
- No microwave? Use a double boiler to melt butter, oil, and sugars.
- For a fun twist, top cooled brownies with orange frosting or ganache.
- Brownies freeze well for up to 3 months in an airtight container.
