Homemade Condensed Milk

Homemade Condensed Milk

This homemade condensed milk recipe is quick, easy, and requires only four ingredients. It’s free from preservatives, perfect for baking, beverages, or desserts, and can be customized to suit your taste. A delicious, healthier alternative to store-bought versions!

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1.5 cups (12 servings, approx.) 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence

Instructions

  • Dissolve the Sugar: In a small pot over medium-low heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely. Be careful here – you don’t want the mixture to boil or brown. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Blend the Mixture: Pour the dissolved sugar-water mixture into a blender (a glass jar blender works best). Blend on medium speed for about 1 minute to make sure everything is nicely combined.
  • Add Vanilla and Milk Powder: Slowly add the vanilla essence, followed by the powdered milk. Keep blending as you go to avoid any lumps. If you add everything at once, the milk powder might clump together – and nobody wants that!
  • Blend to Thicken: Continue blending the mixture for about 5 minutes. Every minute or so, give your blender a break for 30 seconds to prevent it from overheating. You’ll notice the mixture thickening as it blends.
  • Adjust Consistency: If it looks a little too thick for your liking, add 2-3 tablespoons of water. Blend it again until you achieve the perfect consistency. It’s all about finding the balance that works for you!
  • Cool and Store: Once blended to perfection, pour your homemade condensed milk into a glass jar. Let it cool completely before sealing the jar and placing it in the fridge. As it chills, it will thicken even more, so don’t worry if it looks slightly runny at first.

Notes

  • Shelf Life: Homemade condensed milk will keep for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Make sure to store it in an airtight jar to maintain its freshness.
  • Flavor Variations: Feel free to get creative by swapping the vanilla essence with almond extract or a splash of maple syrup for a unique twist.
  • Dairy-Free Version: Want to go dairy-free? Use coconut milk powder and coconut sugar for a delicious plant-based alternative.
  • Consistency Control: If your condensed milk thickens too much in the fridge, warm it up slightly or stir in a teaspoon of warm water to loosen it.
