Scale
- 1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries
- 1/4 cup white sugar

- 1/2 cup water
- Zest of 1 orange
- Juice of 1 orange (about 1/2 cup)
Instructions
- Zest the peel of the orange using a fine zester.
- Cut the orange in half and squeeze out the juice, aiming for about 1/2 cup.
- In a large pot, combine the white sugar, brown sugar, and water. Stir occasionally to dissolve the sugar over medium heat.
- Add the orange zest, orange juice, and cranberries to the pot. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the cranberries to pop open.
- Once the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove the pot from the heat.
- Let the sauce cool to room temperature before serving.
Notes
- This sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For a sweeter sauce, feel free to add extra sugar or maple syrup to taste.
- If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend the sauce after it cools.
- Frozen cranberries can also be used as a substitute for fresh cranberries.
