Jerk Steak and Shrimp over Yellow Rice

Dive into the vibrant flavors of the Caribbean with this Jerk Steak & Shrimp over Yellow Rice recipe. It’s a delightful blend of spicy jerk-seasoned steak and shrimp, served over fragrant yellow rice, garnished with colorful bell peppers. Perfect for anyone looking to spice up their mealtime with something exotic and flavorful.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup red and green bell peppers, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 lb. shrimps, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb. Angus steak, cut into hearty cubes
  • 2 tsp jerk seasoning
  • 1 tsp Creole seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ⅛ tsp honey
  •  Yellow rice, prepared as per package instructions

Instructions

  1. Begin by heating oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the steak cubes and let them sizzle for about 5 minutes. Flip them over and cook for another 5 minutes until they’re beautifully browned. Once done, set the steak aside on a plate.
  2. In the same pan, it’s shrimp time! Season them with a mix of Creole and jerk seasoning. Make sure the shrimps are dry to get that perfect sear. Add butter to the pan and cook the shrimp for 1 minute on each side. Then, take them out and set them aside with the steak.
  3. Toss the bell peppers into the pan and let them cook until they’re tender yet crisp, about 5 minutes. Now, bring back the steak and shrimp into the pan, pour in the chicken broth, and drizzle the honey over everything. Once it boils, lower the heat and let it simmer. This is where the magic happens, as all the flavors meld together.
  4. Serve this mouthwatering mixture over a bed of fluffy yellow rice. Garnish with fresh coriander to add a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

  • For an authentic jerk flavor, marinate the steak and shrimp in jerk seasoning overnight. This deepens the flavors, making the dish even more delectable.
  • If you’re sensitive to spice, adjust the amount of jerk seasoning to suit your palate.
  • Yellow rice can be made more aromatic by cooking it in chicken broth instead of water and adding a pinch of turmeric for color.
