Description

Longhorn Brussels Sprouts are a crispy, caramelized vegetable dish featuring a sweet and spicy glaze. Perfect for any meal, they offer a unique balance of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors, making them a favorite side dish at dinner tables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1½ tablespoons sriracha (adjust to taste for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 1½ teaspoons smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This high temperature ensures a crisp, caramelized finish on the Brussels sprouts.
  2. Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and slice them in half. Toss them in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even browning. For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 2–3 minutes at the end.
  4. While the sprouts are roasting, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, sriracha, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the glaze thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  5. Once the Brussels sprouts are roasted, place them in a large bowl. Pour the glaze over the hot Brussels sprouts and toss gently to coat.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish. Optionally, garnish with toasted sesame seeds or chopped green onions for extra flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure to dry your Brussels sprouts thoroughly before roasting to avoid sogginess.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan; space the sprouts out for an even roast.
  • For a milder glaze, reduce the amount of sriracha and red pepper flakes.
  • If you want extra crispiness, finish the sprouts under the broiler for 2-3 minutes.
  • These Brussels sprouts pair well with grilled meats or as a standalone side dish for vegetarian meals.
