Ingredients
Scale
- 85g unsalted butter
- 6 cups regular marshmallows
- 4 cups Rice Bubbles (Krispies)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Red food coloring
Instructions
- Prepare a Bain-Marie by putting 1/2 cup of water into a small pot and bringing it to a boil. Place a large heatproof bowl over the pot of boiling water.
- Place the butter and marshmallows into the heatproof bowl. Stir continuously for 2-4 minutes until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
- Remove the heatproof bowl from the pot using oven mitts. Add the salt and a few drops of red food coloring to the mixture and stir to combine.
- In a large mixing bowl, place the Rice Bubbles. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Bubbles and stir quickly to coat them evenly with the marshmallow mixture.
- Oil your hands and shape the Rice Bubble mixture into ovals. Use a butter knife to gently create a dent in the center of each oval to mimic the appearance of a brain.
- Dip a toothpick into the red food coloring and use it to draw veins on each brain shape, giving it a more realistic look.
- Allow the shaped brains to cool before storing them in an airtight container for up to one week.
Notes
- Be quick when mixing the Rice Bubbles with the marshmallow mixture to avoid the marshmallow solidifying.
- Oiling your hands or using two spoons to shape the mixture will help prevent sticking.
- Store the marshmallow brains in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
