Description

M&M Cookie Bars are soft, chewy dessert bars loaded with chocolate chips and colorful M&M candies. This easy one-pan cookie bar recipe delivers a buttery cookie base with crisp edges and a tender center, making it perfect for parties, family gatherings, or quick homemade treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (90 g) chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (85 g) M&M candies

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease or line an 8×6-inch or 9×7-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and beat until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft cookie dough forms.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and most of the M&M candies, reserving a small handful for topping.
  7. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, pressing it gently into the corners.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining M&M candies on top of the dough.
  9. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  10. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added to keep the cookie bars soft and tender.
  • Slightly underbaking the bars will help maintain a chewy texture.
  • Use room temperature butter for easier mixing and better texture.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting to get clean slices.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
