Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the batter, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top evenly.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- To make the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until fluffy.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake, slice, and serve.
