Description

This No Knead Sourdough Bread recipe is an easy and foolproof way to make delicious homemade sourdough. With minimal hands-on time and a bit of patience, you can create a rustic loaf with a crispy crust and soft, tangy crumb. The recipe uses simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, a sourdough starter, and salt, making it a perfect option for beginners and experienced bakers alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, water, salt, and sourdough starter until a sticky dough forms.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours, allowing it to rise and ferment.
  3. Once the dough has fermented, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently fold the dough over itself a few times to shape it into a round loaf.
  4. Place the dough on a piece of parchment paper and cover it with a towel. Let it rise for another 1 to 2 hours, until it has puffed up.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven with its lid inside the oven while it heats up.
  6. Once the oven is preheated, carefully remove the Dutch oven and transfer the dough into it, using the parchment paper to lift it.
  7. Cover the Dutch oven with its lid and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing to set the crumb.

Notes

  • If the dough is too sticky, resist adding too much flour. A wetter dough yields a better crumb.
  • To test if the bread is done, tap the bottom of the loaf. It should sound hollow when fully baked.
  • For longer storage, freeze slices of the bread. It keeps for up to 3 days at room temperature in a paper bag or bread box.
