Description

Simple turkey dressing made with bread cubes, onions, celery, sage, and butter. Perfect for Thanksgiving or family dinners, with crispy edges and a soft center.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of bread cubes (day-old bread preferred)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Cut the day-old bread into small cubes and set aside in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and celery, sautéing for 5 minutes or until softened.
  4. Stir in the sage, salt, and pepper, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour the sautéed vegetable mixture over the bread cubes and mix well.
  6. Gradually add the chicken broth, stirring until the bread cubes are fully moistened.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and press down gently to ensure even coverage.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the dressing cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a crispier dressing, broil for 2-3 minutes at the end of baking.
  • Make-ahead tip: You can prepare the dressing the night before and store it in the refrigerator. Reheat before serving.
  • For a vegetarian option, swap the chicken broth with vegetable broth.
  • Feel free to add nuts or dried fruit for extra flavor and texture.
