Description

Sweet Glazed Easter Bread is a soft braided yeast bread topped with a smooth powdered sugar glaze and colorful sprinkles. This festive homemade loaf is perfect for Easter brunch, dessert, or spring gatherings, offering a fluffy texture and lightly sweet flavor that pairs beautifully with coffee, tea, or holiday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons nonpareil sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2/3 cup milk with 2 teaspoons active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until slightly foamy.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons butter, 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
  3. Add 2 eggs and continue mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and divide it into two equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a long rope about 16–18 inches long.
  8. Twist the two ropes together to form a braid and connect the ends to create a circular wreath shape.
  9. Place the shaped bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool completely.
  12. In a bowl, whisk together 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk to create a thick glaze.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons nonpareil sprinkles.
  14. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • If your kitchen is cool, slightly warm the milk (about 100–110°F) before adding yeast to help activate it.
  • If the dough feels too sticky while kneading, add 1–2 tablespoons of flour gradually.
  • Allow the bread to cool completely before adding the glaze to prevent it from melting.
  • For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon orange zest to the dough.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
