Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons nonpareil sprinkles
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2/3 cup milk with 2 teaspoons active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until slightly foamy.
- Add 2 tablespoons butter, 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
- Add 2 eggs and continue mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and divide it into two equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a long rope about 16–18 inches long.
- Twist the two ropes together to form a braid and connect the ends to create a circular wreath shape.
- Place the shaped bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool completely.
- In a bowl, whisk together 2 cups powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk to create a thick glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons nonpareil sprinkles.
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If your kitchen is cool, slightly warm the milk (about 100–110°F) before adding yeast to help activate it.
- If the dough feels too sticky while kneading, add 1–2 tablespoons of flour gradually.
- Allow the bread to cool completely before adding the glaze to prevent it from melting.
- For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon orange zest to the dough.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
