Description

These 20 Minute Thai Basil Beef Rolls are a quick and flavorful dish featuring savory ground beef cooked with garlic, ginger, and Thai-inspired sauces, then wrapped in soft tortillas with fresh herbs, crunchy vegetables, and peanuts for a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/3 cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 Persian cucumbers, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/2 cup Thai basil leaves
  • 1/3 cup roasted peanuts, chopped
  • 8 medium flour tortillas
  • 2 tablespoons chili paste (for serving)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef, breaking it apart, until browned and fully cooked, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add black pepper, minced garlic, grated ginger, and Chinese five spice. Stir and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in soy sauce and Thai chili sauce, stirring well. Let the mixture simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened and the beef is coated.
  4. Stir in chopped green onions and remove from heat.
  5. Warm tortillas in the microwave for 10-15 seconds until soft and pliable.
  6. Place each tortilla flat and spoon the beef mixture down the center.
  7. Top with sliced cucumbers, cilantro, Thai basil, and chopped peanuts.
  8. Fold in the sides and roll tightly to form wraps.
  9. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  10. Serve warm with chili paste and toasted sesame oil for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with chicken, turkey, or pork for variation.
  • Use regular basil if Thai basil is unavailable.
  • For a low-carb option, replace tortillas with lettuce wraps.
  • Do not overcook the beef to keep it juicy.
  • Store leftover filling separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
