Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 medium bananas)
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or raisins (optional)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frosting), softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. Stir in the mashed bananas until fully incorporated.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  7. Fold in oats, and if desired, nuts, chocolate chips, or raisins.
  8. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are set.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. In a bowl, beat cream cheese and 1/4 cup butter until smooth.
  12. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy, then stir in vanilla extract.
  13. Spread frosting over completely cooled cookies and serve.

Notes

  • Use ripe bananas with brown spots for maximum sweetness and flavor.
  • Do not overmix the dough to keep cookies soft and tender.
  • Chill the dough for thicker cookies if desired.
  • Ensure cookies are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Store frosted cookies in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
