Description
Basil aioli is a creamy, herb-packed sauce made with fresh basil, garlic, lemon juice, and mayonnaise. This quick homemade condiment is bright, flavorful, and perfect as a spread for sandwiches, burgers, and wraps or as a dipping sauce for fries, roasted vegetables, seafood, and grilled chicken.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves (about 30 leaves), lightly packed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Add the mayonnaise, fresh basil leaves, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt to the bowl of a food processor or blender.
- Pulse several times to begin breaking down the basil leaves and combine the ingredients.
- Blend for about 20–30 seconds until the basil aioli becomes smooth, creamy, and evenly mixed.
- Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed by adding a small pinch of salt or a few extra drops of lemon juice.
- Transfer the basil aioli to a sealed container or bowl.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve as a dipping sauce for fries or roasted vegetables, or spread it on sandwiches, burgers, seafood, or grilled chicken.
Notes
- Use fresh basil for the best bright herbal flavor and vibrant color.
- If you do not have a food processor, finely mince the basil and garlic and whisk them with the other ingredients in a bowl.
- Allow the basil aioli to chill before serving so the flavors fully develop.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
- For a lighter version, substitute half of the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt.
