Description

This Beef Lo Mein is a quick and flavorful stir-fried noodle dish made with tender flank steak, crisp vegetables, and a savory umami-rich sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, it delivers restaurant-style taste in just 30 minutes using simple ingredients and easy cooking techniques.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, mixed with 2 tablespoons water)

Instructions

  1. Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions until just tender. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Add sliced flank steak and marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, sauté garlic, ginger, and onion for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add broccoli, carrots, and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 4–5 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and add the cooked noodles.
  7. Add oyster sauce and toss everything together until evenly coated.
  8. If a thicker sauce is desired, stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1–2 minutes until thickened.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • Cook on high heat to achieve authentic stir-fry flavor and texture.
  • Do not overcook noodles; they should remain slightly firm.
  • You can substitute spaghetti if lo mein noodles are unavailable.
  • Add chili sauce or red pepper flakes for a spicy variation.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
