- 2 cups cold water (divided)
- 8 ounces whipped topping, thawed
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Prepare the white cake mix according to the package directions and bake it in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Allow the cake to cool completely.
- Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a thick skewer, poke holes evenly over the entire surface of the cooled cake.
- Whisk the strawberry gelatin with 1 cup boiling water until fully dissolved, then stir in 1 cup cold water.
- Spoon the strawberry gelatin mixture over part of the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes while leaving some areas uncovered.
- Prepare the berry blue gelatin by whisking it with 1 cup boiling water until dissolved, then stir in 1 cup cold water.
- Pour the berry blue gelatin into the remaining uncovered holes and areas of the cake.
- Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until thoroughly chilled.
- Spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
- Decorate the top with chopped strawberries and fresh blueberries.
- Slice and serve chilled.
Notes
- Allow the cake to cool completely before adding the gelatin.
- Use plenty of evenly spaced holes so the gelatin distributes throughout the cake.
- For best flavor, chill the cake for several hours or overnight.
- Add the fresh berries just before serving for the freshest appearance.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can substitute vanilla or yellow cake mix if desired.
- Fresh whipped cream may be used instead of frozen whipped topping.
