Description
Black Mulberry Crumble Bar is a buttery, crumbly dessert layered with a rich, tangy black mulberry filling. This easy baked treat combines a golden crisp topping with a jam-like fruit center, making it perfect for any season using fresh or frozen mulberries.
Ingredients
Scale
- 200 g butter, cut into cubes and frozen
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 3 teaspoons vanilla sugar (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 500 g black mulberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
Instructions
- Place black mulberries in a saucepan and add 1/2 cup sugar. Cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, 1 cup sugar, vanilla sugar, and baking powder.
- Add the frozen butter cubes and egg. Rub the mixture with your fingertips until it forms a coarse, crumbly texture.
- Press two-thirds of the crumble mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan to form the base.
- Spread the mulberry filling evenly over the base layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture over the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before slicing into bars.
Notes
- Use frozen butter to achieve a light and crumbly texture.
- Do not overmix the dough to avoid a dense crumble.
- Cook the mulberry filling until thick to prevent soggy bars.
- Allow the bars to cool fully before cutting for clean slices.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
