This creamy Bow Tie Pasta Salad is the perfect combination of creamy, savory, and fresh ingredients. It features tender bow tie pasta tossed with a rich homemade dressing and combined with ham, cheddar cheese, peas, and bell peppers. Whether for a summer BBQ or a family picnic, this pasta salad is easy to make and a crowd favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb bow tie pasta
  • 8 oz cheddar cheese, diced
  • 1 cup fully-cooked ham, diced
  • 1/2 small white or sweet onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp sweet or dill relish
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Boil the pasta according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, relish, sugar, mustard, vinegar, salt, and pepper to create the dressing. Refrigerate.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the ham, cheese, onion, peas, and red bell pepper.
  4. Pour the chilled dressing over the salad and toss well to coat.
  5. Cover and refrigerate the salad for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • To avoid sogginess, store the dressing separately if making in advance.
  • Rinse the pasta with cold water immediately after boiling to stop cooking and prevent sticking.
  • Feel free to add or swap out vegetables based on your preferences.
