Description
Brownie Carrot Patch is a fun and festive Easter dessert made with rich chocolate brownies, creamy orange frosting, and edible green grass to look like tiny carrots growing in garden soil. Served in individual cups, it is an easy spring treat that is perfect for parties, brunches, and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box brownie mix (18.3 oz): the chocolate base for the dessert cups
- 2 large eggs: helps bind the brownie batter
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil: adds moisture and richness to the brownies
- 1/4 cup water: helps create a smooth brownie batter
- 1 tub orange frosting (16 oz): piped on top to resemble carrots
- 1/2 cup edible green grass or green candy strands: creates the carrot tops
- 8 small glass votive cups or dessert cups: used for serving and presentation
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the brownie mix package directions, usually to 350°F. Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the brownie mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Stir until the batter is smooth and fully combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted near the middle comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan. This helps them crumble easily without becoming sticky.
- Once cooled, break the brownies into fine crumbs using your hands or a fork until they resemble soft garden soil.
- Spoon the brownie crumbs into 8 small dessert cups, filling each cup about three-quarters full.
- Transfer the orange frosting to a piping bag or a small plastic bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe a small mound of frosting into the center of each cup to look like the top of a carrot.
- Insert a few strands of edible green grass into each frosting mound to create the carrot leaves.
- Serve immediately, or refrigerate the cups for 15 to 20 minutes so the frosting can firm up slightly before serving.
Notes
- Let the brownies cool completely before crumbling so they keep a soft soil-like texture.
- Clear dessert cups work best because they show off the brownie crumbs and carrot decoration.
- If orange frosting is unavailable, use vanilla frosting tinted with orange food coloring.
- For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free brownie mix.
- Assemble the edible grass shortly before serving for the freshest appearance.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
