Description

Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole is a classic Thanksgiving side dish that combines green beans with a creamy mushroom sauce and crispy onion topping. Simple to prepare and loved by all, this dish is perfect for holiday meals or any family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed Cream of Mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 4 cups cut green beans (2 cans of 16-ounce canned green beans, or 1.5 pounds of fresh green beans)
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy French fried onions, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prep the Beans: If using fresh green beans, wash them, cut off the stem ends, and blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes. If using canned green beans, simply drain them.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, combine the Cream of Mushroom soup and milk, stirring until smooth. Add the soy sauce and stir again.
  3. Add Beans and Onions: Stir in the green beans and half of the crispy French fried onions. Season with black pepper and mix well.
  4. Air Fryer Method: Spray a 1.5-quart baking dish with non-stick spray. Add the green bean mixture and air fry at 350°F for 10 minutes. Stir and top with the remaining onions. Air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
  5. Oven Method: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Pour the green bean mixture into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes, then stir and top with the remaining onions. Bake for another 5 minutes until the onions are crispy.

Notes

  • If using fresh green beans, be sure to blanch them before adding them to the casserole.
  • For a healthier version, consider using reduced-sodium soy sauce and unsalted cream of mushroom soup.
  • You can make the casserole ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Just increase the cooking time by a few minutes if baking from cold.
  • To keep the crispy onion topping, bake uncovered for the last 5 minutes.
