Description

This Caramel Espresso Hot Cocoa is the perfect drink for the winter season, offering a rich, creamy, and indulgent flavor that combines bold espresso, sweet caramel, and smooth chocolate. Ideal for cozy moments or festive gatherings, it’s topped with whipped cream and optional marshmallows for an extra treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 1/2 cups coconut milk (3 cans) or whole milk
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce
  • 4-6 shots of espresso (or 1/2 cup black coffee)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Grated cinnamon or chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add coconut milk, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, caramel, espresso, vanilla, and a pinch of salt to a large pot.
  2. Place the pot over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is steaming but not boiling.
  3. Once the hot cocoa is heated, taste and adjust sweetness by adding more caramel if needed.
  4. Ladle the hot cocoa into mugs and top with whipped cream.
  5. Optional: Add grated cinnamon or chocolate shavings for extra flavor.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you prefer a dairy-free version, swap coconut milk with almond, oat, or soy milk.
  • For a sweeter version, add more caramel sauce or maple syrup to taste.
  • This recipe can be made ahead by preparing the base and storing it in the fridge. Reheat before serving.
  • Feel free to skip the whipped cream and marshmallows for a lighter version.
