Description

Christmas Puppy Chow is an easy no-bake holiday treat made with crunchy Chex cereal, creamy peanut butter, chocolate chips, chocolate protein or collagen powder, powdered sugar, and festive M&M’s. It is a sweet, chocolatey, protein-packed twist on classic muddy buddies that is perfect for Christmas parties, movie nights, dessert tables, and edible gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Chex cereal
  • 1/4 cup chocolate collagen or protein powder
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup M&M’s or festive candy of choice

Instructions

  1. Place the peanut butter and chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until completely melted and smooth.
  2. Add the Chex cereal to a large zip-top bag.
  3. Pour the melted peanut butter and chocolate mixture over the cereal, then add the chocolate collagen or protein powder.
  4. Seal the bag and gently shake until the cereal is evenly coated, taking care not to crush the Chex.
  5. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and spread the coated cereal over the pan.
  6. Allow the cereal mixture to cool for about 20 minutes.
  7. Add the powdered sugar and gently toss until the cereal is evenly coated.
  8. Let the Christmas Puppy Chow cool for another 15 to 20 minutes so the coating can set.
  9. Gently mix in the M&M’s or other festive candy.
  10. Serve once completely cooled and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use a gluten-free Chex variety and verify all other ingredient labels if preparing this recipe for a gluten-free diet.
  • Melt the peanut butter and chocolate in short microwave intervals to prevent the chocolate from scorching.
  • Shake the cereal gently so the Chex pieces remain intact.
  • Allow the mixture to cool before adding the powdered sugar and candy for the best texture.
  • Chocolate collagen and chocolate protein powder can vary in sweetness and absorbency, so the final texture may differ slightly between brands.
  • Red and green M&M’s are ideal for a festive Christmas appearance, but other small candies can be substituted.
  • Store completely cooled puppy chow in an airtight container away from heat.
  • Nutrition information is an estimate and will vary according to the specific cereal, peanut butter, chocolate, protein powder, and candy used.
